Long Weekend Getaway In Texas Hill Country

I never thought I would be the person to enjoy a staycation but my friend group planned the most amazing trip lately. It wasn’t the beach but the lake was nearby and we had the most amazing pool. There is nothing better than having most of your close friends under one roof, cooking great food and lounging by the pool.

Ironically, I am so private, but I have a lifestyle blog. Mostly, because I want to pass on my experiences.  Every time I experience something beautiful or monumental, I want to share it. I share them in hopes that others will find them equally amazing.

Domestic Travel

Until recently, my pride has always been in traveling the world. Going to places like Greece, Africa, Portugal, and Spain were my claim to fame. That is why when someone suggested getting away to a lake in Texas I thought, why? I had no idea Texas had hill country that could be so serene and so beautiful. The curiosity prompted me to do research and look at what is available. When I found the house on Air B and B, it all came together.

After I convinced everyone that this was the house, I was ready. I packed up my cowboy boots, sundresses, bathing suits, oversized pool floaties and started working on the menu. I was packed 2 weeks before we left and coordinated friends coming from all over the US.

A View with a Pool

One of the easiest ways to convince me to stay somewhere is to have a pool. But this wasn’t just any pool, it came with a gorgeous view. This particular trip was an important one because for the past year life got in the way. Our group went from taking an annual trip to not taking one for eighteen months. It isn’t easy to pull 10 of your close friends together for a getaway. Between work, significant others, families and well just life, it takes a lot of work. Yet, somehow for the long holiday we were able to pull it off.

This trip was about the little things. We rented a boat, made amazing meals, played games, had a crawfish boil and floated the river. We were there for four amazing days. One of those days, we stayed on the lake all day. After lunch, we decided to try a little fishing. The lake was beautiful under the morning sky. We did not stop the boat until we were in the center of the lake. We even took turns jumping off the side into the water.

Talk Vacay to Me

However, the best part was the conversations, the laughs and just having the opportunity to be together. As we get older it gets harder to maintain friendships the way we did when we were younger. That is why I appreciated this time so much. Being around people you enjoy and that enjoy you is a luxury not everyone has. If you have a friend group that is precious to you, don’t take it for granted.

Last, do not forget to appreciate the little things like nature. The stars in the Texas sky at night appear enchanting. Every glittering gem in the heavens was perfectly reflected on the face of the lake like a crystal mirror. There are visuals from that trip that I will always take with me.

If you are planning to go to Texas Hill Country, it is about 35-40 minutes from Austin or San Antonio. If you are not local to Texas, you can fly into Austin and drive from there. Additionally, if you are planning to travel with a group check out VRBO. There are some great options.
