Couvant Does French Food Right in New Orleans

Couvant. Does it sound appealing? Well, if you are headed to New Orleans Louisiana, you are in business. If you love French Food as much as I do, this may be the place for you. Tried this place back in 2019 and fell in love. Unfortunately, it was closed during the pandemic but luckily reopened in 2022.

As for décor, there is definitely a vibe. More than comfortable banquette seating and unique local art pieces. Not to mention the stone flooring, globe lighting and mosaic tile accents throughout. Color patterns always catch my attention. Considering the color pattern at Couvant is a gorgeous blue, black and white. It is hard not to notice the attention to detail. The patio even has exposed brick that gives it a very upscale look.

Next, I have to mention the bar at Couvant. The cocktails transcend the average cocktails. That may be because they are French reimagined and inspired drinks rooted in classic techniques. It reminded me so much of a restaurant I fell in love with, in Paris. They are designed to reflect the spirit of the culture.

Did I mention the Eliza Jane is home to Couvant? It is also a hotel. Located, in New Orleans’ Central Business District. Couvant features a bar and dining room with a minimalistic brasserie design. My plan is to stay at the Eliza Jane next time I am in New Orleans.

The neighborhood used to be surrounded by historic warehouses. Liquor, gunpowder, and the city’s famed Daily Picayune newspaper were all manufactured and distributed where the hotel now stands. However, one thing that makes it extremely interesting to me is the namesake. This building is where a fiery-haired poet-turned-heiress, Mrs. Eliza Jane Nicholson, became the country’s first woman publisher who successfully turned a local penny paper into a national institution.

Well, enough about the building. If you make it New Orleans and looking for a great space for groups with amazing French food you may want to check it out.
