Hank’s Restaurant in Austin Texas was a pleasant surprise. Located in a strip mall that most people have given up on, the gorgeous decor makes it stand out. Considered a neighborhood spot, you will find repeat local customers. I call it a triple threat because it has a great bar area for happy hour, an open dining area and a beautiful patio for outdoor dining.
Sunday Funday
I found it online looking for a brunch spot. It was a halfway point between where I was staying in Austin and where my friends lived. Hanks seemed like one of those places I should know about but didn’t. My favorite brunch spot is Matties but I thought it would be a good idea to try something new. The parking seemed to be easy, it wasn’t far off the highway. Hanks isn’t very far from downtown, and the menu looked amazing. Ironically, my friends hadn’t heard of it either, so they were eager to try it. I am glad we did because we have added it to our list along with Matties.
The Food
I am obsessed with the brunch menu at Hanks. Originally, when I read the menu online, I was all set to try the avocado toast. Ironically, someone sitting next to us ordered the Shrimp and Grits, which meant that was a wrap. I am not a Shrimp and Grits person at all, but this is made very different than I have seen. It has so much flavor in both the preparation of the Grits and the Shrimp. With it’s creamy base, I didn’t even know I was eating grits. Even if Shrimp and Grits isn’t your bag, there are so many other options to choose from.
Host and Event
If you are looking for someone to host an event, they have the space. I don’t know why but I think it is the perfect place to have a baby shower. It is bright from all of the windows creating such a happy and upbeat space. But the space could be perfect for lots of other events as well. From intimate gatherings to grand celebrations, they offer a variety of spaces curated to accommodate memorable private dining experiences.
